As their working relationship is explored in the New 52, it adds another dimension to their interactions that I haven't seen in a long time, unpredictability.
Lois and Clark often clash and butt heads as the passionate and obstinate journalists that they are. They argue and they fight, but they still respect each other as colleagues.
Is there a future for Superman and Wonder Woman? Cynics and pessimists will say that Superman and Wonder Woman will never last as a couple and they might be right because there's no guarantees when it comes to love, especially in comics. How would the world react to the new power couple? A group of individual superheroes uniting for a cause is one thing, but when the two most powerful beings on the planet fall in love, that raises an entirely different set of concerns because rational thinking often goes out the window when it comes to matters of the heart.
If Superman and Wonder Woman do break up, then all the platonic development that's been going on between Lois and Clark will suddenly make their romance seem much more organic and earned. Lois Lane will become Clark's girlfriend because of what they've been through as competitors, as colleagues and as friends.
Superman and Wonder Woman's New 52 Romance Erased From Continuity
Lois Lane and Clark Kent weren't an item for a long time in the original comics, so why would Lois Lane and Clark Kent be an item immediately in the New 52?
I hope Superman and Wonder Woman do stay together, but I expect something catastrophic will happen, they'll break up and Clark will probably end up with Lois Lane anyway, and that will be fine because like I said, I'll just be glad that DC devoted a significant amount of time to explore what would happen if Superman and Wonder Woman were actually in a committed relationship with each other.
We are the ones buying these comic books after all. I've been handed a lot of crappy gimmicks by both DC and Marvel over the years, but this is something I actually wanted to see, so thank you for this DC. For a start, they're kindred spirits, they're going through things that only the other can even begin to comprehend and understand.
That is a part of what brought them together in the first place. Wonder Woman has since found an exiled Amazon called Hessia and Superman has also found Supergirl too. So they're not technically the last of their species, but they are in a unique position to understand each other on a much deeper level than a Steve Trevor or a Lois Lane ever could.
Other people have complained that they represent the typical 'Jock and Cheerleader' couple, but I think that's an entirely superficial observation of the couple. Yes, Superman is a handsome man, and Wonder Woman is a beautiful woman, but Superman and Wonder Woman are not involved with each other for superficial reasons like that.
Kal El and Diana are very different people, and this dichotomy is being explored very well in the Superman and Wonder Woman comic books. Kal El has always been brought up to hide who he is, to keep his identity a secret, while Wonder Woman was always raised with the notion that she's exceptional and is proud to be who she is, Wonder Woman hides from no one.
Superman always wants to hide everything from everyone, he's an intensely private person, while Wonder Woman doesn't want to hide anything from anyone, they're polar opposites in a lot of ways.
Superman wants to keep their relationship a secret, partly because he's worried how the world will react to the new power couple, while Wonder Woman wants to walk hand in hand with Superman down the street and deal with whatever happens as it happens. Plus DC have really put a lot of talent behind the Superman and Wonder Woman romance in the comics, the writing is terrific and the artwork is truly awesome.
I really hope they can maintain the quality that they've achieved so far because I'm really enjoying it. Of all the mistakes of the New 52, this is not of them. Whether they'll always be that way — who knows?
It's a relationship, so it could change.
But right now — except for the fact that they blew themselves up — things are looking pretty good. Doomed " crossover eventwhich featured the first major conflict between Superman and Doomsday in the New Not very long after that we had our first big in-person summit on what this event was going to be, which was all the way back in last October It was in that meeting that Doomsday was what we wanted to do, so as far back as then, we were talking about it. Obviously, the specifics have evolved, but Doomsday was the plan all the way back then.
However their date is interrupted by an unnatural storm forming in the North Atlantic Ocean. While Superman investigates the cause of the storm, Wonder Woman rescues a plane caught in its path and is mistakenly shot down by a Norwegian Navy vessel.
Once aboard the ship, Wonder Woman is attacked by Doomsday. Once healed from her injuries, Wonder Woman takes Superman to Mt. Etna to ask Hephaestus for weapons in order to defeat Doomsday. There, the couple is visited by Strife and Apollo, whom Superman throws into orbit after he insults Wonder Woman. Meanwhile, a caravan traveling in the Sahara desert is attacked by General Zod.
Superman/Wonder Woman - Wikipedia
When the fight is over, Superman places Zod in custody in the menagerie at the Fortress of Solitude. As the world reacts to the news, Clark Kent investigates how the information was leaked before checking in with Zod at the Fortress of Solitude. Wonder Woman eventually joins the subsequent battle between Superman, Zod and Faora, before they agree to suspend the fight for another day.
Using the weapons created by Hephaestus, Superman and Wonder Woman nearly defeat Zod and Faora, but are themselves defeated after Apollo intervenes. Zod and Faora place Superman and Wonder Woman inside a nearby nuclear reactor, as they finish constructing the portal. However, Superman and Wonder Woman set off a nuclear explosion inside the reactor, destroying the portal before it is opened.
