It’s basically BESM without bwsm 12 limit. The first edition of BESM was a bit of a clusterfuck, as it was GoO’s first release, but unlike many companies’ first releases, it was still playable and fun. The game takes some GM oversight to make sure you have a balanced party, but I’ve never had much trouble. This makes the system more open ended. The initial edition, designed by Mark C. Starting inGuardians of Order replaced the company’s previous practice of producing stand-alone games for anime series for which they had obtained licenses with Ultimate Fan Guides — a series of supplements for BESM which combine information on the episodes, characters and themes of anime series with statistics and game information for those series.

It’s an easy-to-learn point buy system that’s also pretty easy to play, and all you need are 2d6. This has scaling issues in high powered games, pretty much once one of your attributes gets into double digits, things get kind of weird.
This is the exact same system as used in 2nd edition, except that it uses 2d10 instead of 2d6 for resolution and other things are adjusted accordingly.

I do like the Damage Multiplier and Power Flux from 3rd edition, though. So that’s entirely subjective. What you see with BESM is a pogression from an extremly rules light game to bexm moderatly complex game with extrme levels of character detail. I can guarantee there will be a more focused game that serves that role better. Also, all the BESM books are bbesm on DriveThru so there’s no worry about finding the materials at a reasonable price no matter what edition you pick. Centauri Knights and Uresia: Currently there are only a scant few traces of BESM anywhere on White Wolf’s main site, and they made it clear that they are not intending to support the system in any way, effectively killing the game.

Somebody else pointed out the fact that 3e changed to a “roll over vs. While I haven’t played 1st or 3rd, based dpg my experiences with 2nd and the problems with it – which came down to people having a lot of trouble figuring out how to mechanically represent their character concept, I’d think that 1e is the version to go rgp.
It may have been because it was too close gpg 2e for me to bother changing over? A note on mechanics: If you go with 2nd edition, I recommend a small house rule, where if a character succeeds on their defense roll, but by less than the attack succeeded, they take half damage instead of none.

That said, 2e has its strengths, and is lower crunch than 3e. BESM isn’t really “anime” as such, it’s a generic system themed with anime-esque art and descriptions. I found a copy of Tri-Stat DX that was pretty good. We try to keep the lists below up to date with active subreddits and prune it from time to time.
