Jan 02, Melissa rated it did not like it. I finally found it. It seems as if every author from Judika Illes to Dorithy Morrison and even Denise Alvarado has plagerized directly from this book.

This book is absolute garbage, and I’m not just saying that. I actually had to take time off of reading this garbage book to write a review and save someone else their time. The author of this book clearly doesn’t know the slig I finally found it.

The author dormulary this book magockal doesn’t know the slightest thing about hoodoo or Vodun, but likes to pretend that he does. Much of the book is made up of ‘exotic’ sounding formulas meant to play on the ‘spooky Black people magic oooooooo Voodoo oooh curses.

The ingredients Herman Slater if that is your real name, if you’re not dead already make no sense given their magical application within the rootwork tradition. Lets see a few examples to demonstrate.

Magickal Formulary Spellbook 1

As the name suggests, Lost and Away Powder is meant to be used against your enemies not only to force them away, but to render them lost. They might wander around aimlessly, never staying in one place for too long, without a stable job, home, or relationships. Similar to ‘Get Away’ or ‘Hot Foot’. Here are the ingredients the author lists: Dirt from crossroads Mistletoe Sulfur Brimstone Orris Sage Now, anyone with the slightest bit of knowledge on rootwork can tell that this formula makes no sense.

  ESCUPIRE SOBRE TU TUMBA PDF

Orris root is used in spells for freaking love and protection to control a lover, and sage is used to protect and to cleanse. Anyone with the slightest knowledge of hoodoo would see this formula and drop this book, and yet white pagans are eating the shit up like its candy. Bay leaves in a spell to compel and control? What about calamus root? Master of the Woods?

The second formula given is even worse: Lavender in a spell to cause confusion? Here’s a formula for ‘Crossing’ Bayberry Cinnamon Myrrh At this point, I’m only 25 pages in and Magickaal had to write a review just to talk about how terrible and misleading this book is. Bayberry and Cinnamon are money drawing herbs, and have like 0 place in a formula used to cross someone. Myrrh, along with frankincense could be used to add power, but none of these formulas contains any sort of traditional forrmulary correspondence.

This book is not accurate.

It doesn’t make any sort of sense. I’m tired of seeing it plagerized all over the place. Aug 05, Diana Rajchel rated it really liked it.

Among Pagans a generation older than me, this book is cherished, coveted, even fought over. It mqgickal many common hoodoo and American folk-magic based incense, oil, formulqry bath recipes and presents them in an accessible format. It’s very probably the foundation for most American Wicca recipe books that we know now. While such books are ubiquitous now, back when this first came out, recipes of this nature were secret, hard to come by, and vague.

There is a worthwhile read on errors in this formulary Among Pagans a generation older than me, this book is cherished, coveted, even fought over. There is a worthwhile read on errors in this formulary that you may or may not agree are errors. To me it looks like many common hoodoo tools were “Wiccanized” – for example, graveyard dirt was substituted with a mullein-based herb mix.

As far as early source works in Wicca go, however, this is a good one. Nothing is ever gospel in magical practice – many get into magic out of distinct annoyance with the way gospel gets used in general.

While I certainly would not pay the exorbitant fee I did for the book twice, I also won’t be lending it out because I do refer to it formulafy, along with a few other cross referenced sources.
