Prohibits any federal funds from being provided to a hospital unless the hospital provides to women who are victims of sexual assault: This bill will help sexual assault survivors across the country get the medical care they need and deserve.
It is hard to argue against this commonsense legislation. Rape--by definition--could never result in an intended pregnancy. Emergency contraception is a valuable tool that can prevent unintended pregnancy. This bill makes emergency contraception available for survivors of sexual assault at any hospital receiving public funds. Every 2 minutes, a woman is sexually assaulted in the US, and each year, 25, to 32, women become pregnant as a result of rape or incest.

Women deserve access to EC. For millions of women, it represents peace of mind. For survivors of rape and sexual assault, it offers hope for healing and a tomorrow free of painful reminders of the past. The ultimate goal of the National Right to Life Committee is to restore legal protection to innocent human life.
The primary interest of the National Right to Life Committee and its members has been the abortion controversy; however, it is also concerned with related matters of medical ethics which relate to the right to life issues of euthanasia and infanticide. Unfortunately, being the victim of any tragedy does not necessarily make one an expert on the subject matter of why it happened and how it should be prevented in the future. I find the gun-control lobby's efforts to use McCarthy and Giffords to get their agenda through completely distasteful, especially so close to this tragedy.
I am sure the bill she will propose will be a recycling of the legislation that she has tried to introduce again and again. Such legislation is extremely strict and is modeled after similar laws in Australia, Great Britain, and other European states. I do not think such draconian laws should or would work here in the United States where we have a larger population and one that is much more economically and socially diverse than in these other states.
It does beg the question though how anyone who had to have the sheriff called to remove him from a college campus for mental instability was then able to clear the background check.
This also seemed to be the case with Cho in West Virginia. I have voted for it, but I think there's a better way to go at the problem.

And that is limitations on the size of magazines and ammunition clips. Do you think an AR should be sold? I had voted for it and I would likely vote for it again.
But here's a practical problem that I think you're aware of. As soon as you define what an assault weapon is, you know, "you can't sell a weapon, and here's how we describe it," gun manufacturers just make one adjustment or two, and they say, "See, this isn't subject to the limitation. You believe ammunition is the way to go?
I really think that's probably the way to tackle the problem more effectively. As Tim works to combat the epidemic of opioid addiction that is hurting Virginia, he has spoken with law enforcement across the state about spikes in crime related to drug abuse.
Tim strongly supports providing communities with additional tools to prevent and treat drug addiction, including through education, drug courts, and resources for law enforcement. He also introduced legislation to help prevent opioid overdose deaths through increased access to the life-saving drug naloxone.
